A Mother's Someday

-->
Someday you will be able to shower all alone (and not have to hurry).

Someday handprints won’t cover the television and the fridge.

Someday you won’t have to buy four gallons of milk each trip to the grocery store.

Someday you will have time for more than peanut butter toast for breakfast.

But today is not that day.

Someday dried yogurt won’t decorate your counter, your tables, and your carpet.

Someday the laundry pile won’t be a fire hazard because it blocks a major exit.

Someday throw up won’t be on your shirt, on your shoes, or in your hair.

Someday you won’t have to drive an amazingly uncool high occupancy vehicle.

But today is not that day.

Someday quiet in the house will be enjoyed rather than a harbinger of damage done.

Someday you’ll do your hair every morning instead of doing another’s.

Someday you will start to forget the words to the Sesame Street alphabet books.

Someday bottles of shampoo and conditioner will last for weeks instead of days (or hours).

But today is not that day.

Someday you’ll put aside money for your own field trip.

Someday you’ll pull out a child’s toy to look at it instead of putting it away.

Someday cries won’t wake you in the night and require hugs and medicine.

Someday you will miss the sounds, the craziness, and the fun.

But celebrate!  Today is not that day.
